Football has finally arrived, at least sort-of. In one of the first preseason match-ups of the year, turnovers were the name of the game as the San Diego Chargers and Green Bay Packers combined for seven of them. Don’t be fooled into thinking the scrubs were at fault either because star quarterbacks Philip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers had three of them.
Despite making a comeback in the third quarter, the Packers fell just short to the Chargers by the score of 21-13.

– Besides the excitement of seeing some real football, replacement judges has been a hot-button topic going into the 2012 season. The Associated Press doesn’t only recap the game, they also touch base on the historic appearance of Shannon Eastin (pictured above), the first woman official in the NFL.
– Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com states the obvious by saying “The Packers’ young safeties struggled. This isn’t a new trend,” in his Quick Take of the game.
– The Green Bay Press Gazette’s Pete Dougherty starts his article out by saying “The Green Bay Packers were fortunate to get out of this game with Aaron Rodgers upright and in tact.” Green Bay can only hope this is not a sign of what is to come for their make-shift offensive line, who was without Marshall Newhouse (concussion) and Derek Sherrod (broken leg).
– Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writes it was “a frightful start for Packers.”
– Next up for the Packers (0-1) is the Cleveland Browns who they will host at Lambeau Field on Thursday, August 16th. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 PM CT. Green Bay dropped their first pre-season game in 2011 as well, but then went on to win their last three.
